The short answer

Choose Milanote when the project canvas is the center of the work: you want to combine notes, images, links, files, tasks and comments in a flexible visual space. Choose Dekkit when the source library should outlive any one board and the same reference needs to be reused across projects without losing its context.

Milanote is a visual workspace for creative projects. Its boards support freeform placement, columns, notes, images, videos, links, tasks and uploaded files. A web clipper sends material from the browser into the workspace, and boards can be shared for feedback or real-time collaboration. It is a mature fit for moodboards, briefs, storyboards and project planning.

Dekkit starts one layer earlier. A link, image, file or note becomes a Card with a thumbnail and source context. Cards live in Decks, Decks can be grouped into Collections, and selected Cards can be arranged on multiple Boards. The stable Card is separate from its visual placement, so one source can participate in several arguments without being copied into disconnected project islands.

Canvas-first versus library-first

Milanote’s strength is immediacy inside a board. You can place different content types together, write around them and shape the canvas as the project evolves. That makes it effective when the board itself is the main project document.

Dekkit’s distinction is the path between archive and synthesis. A Deck can remain a curated body of evidence while different Boards express different readings of it. If a visual pattern matters to a brand audit today and an onboarding study next month, you can reuse the same Card and retain its note, thumbnail and source.

The difference also affects maintenance. In a canvas-first system, teams often organize by project and keep valuable material where it was used. In a library-first system, the source object has a durable home and the board is one view of it. Neither model prevents the other workflow, but each makes a different behavior natural.

Collaboration and capture

Both products support collaborative visual work. Milanote offers shared boards and comments, with unlimited shared boards listed even on its free plan. Dekkit combines sharing with a reusable content model: collaborators can work from Cards that also remain available to the wider library. For capture, Milanote’s web clipper and Dekkit’s browser, desktop and mobile flows both reduce the gap between discovery and organization.

Pricing and who should choose each

Milanote Free includes 100 notes, images or links, 10 file uploads and unlimited shared boards. Its individual paid plan is listed at $9.99/month billed annually or $12.50 billed monthly, with unlimited content, file uploads and shared boards. Dekkit offers Starter free and Basic from $3.99/month, with higher tiers for more Cards, Decks, Boards and AI capabilities.

Choose Milanote for a broad creative canvas that can carry a project from inspiration to plan. Choose Dekkit for a reusable visual evidence library where Boards are deliberate views built from durable Cards.
